An Exciting Week!

Katie L. This week we are going to Williamsburg. Monticello sounds amazing! It's Thomas Jefferson's old house. I've heard there's breath-taking gardens. I hope we can see them. Jamestown also plays an important part in history. The early settlers named it after King James. John Smith and Pocahontas are important people through Jamestown's history. I can't wait to see it! This week is going to be so exciting!

Watch out Williamsburg! Here I come!

Jenna M. I am so excited about Williamsburg, VA! I'm rooming with one of my best friends! I am kind of bummed. We have to be there at 3:00am! But, no fears because after the first couple of minutes, I'll probably crash! Watch out Williamsburg, here I come!

Local Trips

Jet T. I am looking forward to going to Henry Clay's home in Lexington. The house is a historical landmark in central Kentucky.

Williamsburg!

Ashlee C. 5th grade is going to Williamsburg in 2 days. I can't wait! I think it will be fun. I have never gone out of the state before. Hope I don't get sick! I bet I'll have a lot of fun! Gotta pack!

Thanks, Mrs.Spatola

Sydney P. Social studies in 5th grade is awesome! We learn so much in a quick and easy way. I think I will always remember the 5 Great Lakes thanks to Mrs. Spatola's helpful hints. The five Great Lakes are remembered by the word HOMES. Huron Ontari Michigan Erie Superior Mrs. Spatola and social studies rock!

The "Whoops" in the "Daisy"

Sabree N. Walking in the hallway and changing class can be hard if you are known for dropping things like myself. But the worst is when you keep droppping things as you switch classes. For example, the other day my friend Maggie and I were walking out of Mrs. Cooper's classroom when all of a sudden, all of Maggie's colored pencils fell on the floor. Maggie, Mrs. Cooper and I all jumped to the floor and started helping. As we were picking up, all of my stuff fell off my binder and landed on the floor. As we were standing up again, Maggie dropped all of her pencils, so we started cleaning it up. While we were dong this, a nice girl named Alyssa started helping us pick up all of the pencils. When we got them all cleaned up and thought all was good, we went our separate ways. But, on our way back to the classroom, guess who dropped her stuff, Alyssa! Let's just say we put the "whoops" in the "daisy".

New Specials...Can't Wait Til December

Hunter E. This year we have lots of different specials to choose from. My favorite are Spanish and drama. In Spanish we play games to lean how to say colors and foods. Drama is cool because we are learning how to do plays. We will put one on in December!

High Expectations

Kaylee G. Hi everyone! I'm enjoying 5th grade so far and I'm sure I will enjoy it all year long. I can't pick a favorite teacher, but they are all very nice. If you asked me if I think 5th grade is hard, I would say, "No," because the teachers help you understand what they are teaching. On Thursday, Mrs. Cooper pulled me for a small group. She reviewed rounding with me, and I learned that I was not understanding the rule and I was using the wrong place value. I would say everyone has high expectations for us because we are the oldest students in the school. So come on down to 5th grade and watch us do our thing!

Spanish Class

Riley C. Hey guys! I am having a blast in Spanish! We are learning the alphabet and making skits with a partner. We have to go up in front of everyone and perform our skits. The conversation can only be in Spanish, no English at all!

Flash to Pass!

Kelsea H. In math, everyday, we play on iPads. We play Flash to Pass. It's where you can do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division practice. Check this out...you can focus on certain numbers to practice on. Right now, we're working on addition. We have to have them under 3 minutes and we have one chance. You have to get under 3 minutes two days in a row to move on. Right now, I am on 5's. Today I got 1 min. 52 sec. I hope tomorrow I'll move on to the 6's!

Read Aloud

Noah B. Wow, school is going great! I have gotten to do a lot of cool things this week. My favorite thing in school right now is Read Aloud. Why I like this so much, you ask? Well, we're reading a book called Bud, Not Buddy. It is about a boy named Bud, whose father left him and he does not know who he is. All he knows is that he is in a band. We are about to be on chapter five. We just finished reading where Bud put his foster parents' son's hand in warm water while he was asleep. This made him wet the bed! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Lockdown Drill

Izzy G. Today we had a lockdown drill. That means all the students have to be quiet so the intruder in the school doesn't hear us. We have to sit really close together. After about 6 minutes, it gets uncomfortable. When we had the lockdown drill, the intercom was not working so someone had to yell it through a megaphone. You could hardly here it. Mrs. Stillwell didn't even hear it. Just remember, in a lockdown drill, be very quiet.

1st Math Test

Jeremiah P. So far my favorite subject is math. I have one grade and is a ____. Our homework is worth 10 points each and that will probably help make my grade go to an A. I'm going to try to keep it that way for the whole school year! Better go study for math!

Hard to Say Goodbye

Kyle F. This week was so cool! Too bad I won't be here for long. I will be moving to Taylor County so I should be spending a lot of time with my teachers and friends. All of my teachers are so cool and funny. I am going to miss Mrs. Stillwell, Ms. McNees, and Ms. Karnes. Well, I'll see you later.

5th Grade is OKAY!

Emma C. 5th grade is actually okay. I play the saxophone in band. Drama is my favorite arts subject. We are reading Number the Stars in class and it is so interesting! We have 1 more chapter to go and I'm really excited!

Test Day is Coming Up!

Andrea H Hello! In school, we are having fun while learning. In math, we are learning about rounding and estimating. Friday is the big day. We have 2 tests! One is in math, my worst subject, and the other is in writing, my best subject! In writing, we are learning about indefinite pronouns. Indefinite pronouns are people, places, or things unnamed or unknown. Well, I better get to studying. Wish me luck!

Party in the House!

Addison C. Hello everyone! 5th Grade is awesome! The teachers? Oh my goodness! Best people ever! Can you believe that learning is actually fun? There are several new people this year. Since August 14, I have met so many new people and it's amazing! There's a party in the house tonight! Come join the party. The party will include some awesome teachers and fun learning experiences!

First Impressions

Cole T. So far in 5th grade I have learned a lot! My favorite arts class is science. In science, I learned that volume = length x width x height. I am already liking it a lot and I've only been here two weeks. We get to do tons of fun stuff. We even get to use iPads! Did I mention that we have awesome teachers?
